Building the Future Together: Insights from Women in Tech Policy

Technology is reshaping every part of our economy and society. Yet women remain underrepresented across the sector—especially in roles shaping how technology is governed, built, and deployed.

Our insights series draws on insights from women across the UK’s tech policy community, compiled at the 2025 WITP x techUK Unconference and beyond. It highlights why women enter and stay in tech policy, the barriers they face, and how government can help unlock their full potential.

Three messages stand out:

  1. Women are driven by pragmatism and purpose—a desire to build a better future, not just critique the present.
  2. They are motivated to shape the frontier—to be at the table where decisions about technology and society are made.
  3. They stay because of community, impact, and hope—a belief that technology, if guided well, can change lives for the better.

To harness this potential, the Government’s Women in Tech Taskforce must not only open doors into the sector but also ensure women are leading in its most influential spaces: policy, governance, and regulation.

  • Women in Tech Policy Consultation Response

    WiTP organized a call with leading tech policy experts to respond to Ofcom’s consultation on online safety for women and girls. This initiative aimed to include time-constrained women in policymaking, allowing them to share insights efficiently. WiTP submitted a meaningful response and aims to continue enhancing women’s contributions to policy.
